Australia Day. The sun was beaming, a soft breeze tickling the face, and a whole lot of Grand Slam tennis action happening within Rod Laver Arena. Where else would I want to be?!

This year my Australia Day was spent nestled within Rod Laver Arena’s most exclusive, chic, and luxurious hospitality suite for the Australian Open – the Emirates Suite. As I have confidently noted many times, if anyone knows how to be extravagant and host guests in style and luxury, it is Emirates. Being the most gracious of hosts, the Official Airline Partner of the Australian Open even take the sport of tennis to a whole new level and leave guests questioning their previous conception of luxury.

From the moment an Emirates guests enters the premises of Melbourne Park, the notoriously known, exceptionally presented, Emirates hostesses are present escorting guests to the hospitality suite which was fronted by a wall (or work of art shall I say) of over 738 strategically placed tennis balls. It is from that stage onwards where the guests of the suite are placed in the hands of only the best. Greeted by an array of beautiful hostesses and huge smiles, the guests of the day are offered a flute of champagne, and escorted through the grand enterance of the exquisite suite which was inspired by the sublime surroundings of the Royal Botanical Gardens and views of the Yarra. From luscious greenery and cascading maiden ferns to chic marble tabletops and artistic succulents, the fresh suite which embodied a colour palette of apple green, mother of pearl, luminous whites, and slate, boasted modern style and extreme prestige.

The alfresco decking area overlooking the Yarra river and concrete jungle of Melbourne’s city proved to be the perfect place to bask in the ambiance of the suite and enjoy some of the warm sunny rays (and for myself, an Aperol Spritz to go along with it) whilst discussing the tennis winning picks for the day. Decadent, mouthwatering canapes made their way to all guests in the lead up to the delicious buffet lunch.
Not your ordinary buffet, but then again nothing ordinary is expected when it comes to the hospitality of Emirates, who are internationally renowned for their exceptional, world-class hospitality. The constantly evolving menu reflected a number of Emirates’ key destinations such as Germany, France, Spain, and Italy, and included delectable dishes such as ‘Filet Mignon, parsnip cream, glazed baby vegetables, olive ash and sugar chilli’, and ‘San Sebastian beef cheeks, butternut squash crush, Dutch carrots and green peppercorn sauce.’ Reflective of the cuisine served on board Emirates flights, the internationally inspired dishes were all prepared using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients.

Then it was time for the star attraction of the day – the quarterfinal tennis games! The first match I made my way into the arena for was Maria Sharapova v Serena Williams. Two iconic women that encompass everything I think of when I think “power woman.” Of course, Emirates took care of us in true ‘Emirates’ style seating us only two or three rows from the front, providing us with perfect views for the entire day.

Following the incredible victory of Serena, I had sweets on my mind and that is where I was headed. So back to the suite we went to take a peek of, and let’s be honest a nibble or two from, the delicious, drool-worthy, utterly divine dessert buffet. Desserts of all sorts were placed on the marbled buffet, offering guests the ultimate ending to their perfect lunch. Let’s just say Australia Day was NOT my diet day, but who’s complaining?!

After satisfying our tastebuds, grabbing another Aperol Spritz, and heading to the soft luxurious lounges to kick back and relax in-between matches, we made our way into the arena to watch the most anticipated match of the day – that between possibly the two most internationally loved tennis stars, Roger Federer and Novak Djocovic. Boy was the match a ripper!

What an exceptional and luxurious way to spend time at the Australian Open. Emirates as usual, managed to turn what already was a great event into something magnificent, exclusive, and all round luxurious. In true Emirates style! Keep an eye out for what other surprises the International airline has in store for the year. Being partnered with some of the world’s most exclusive and extravagant events, expectations are high!
